Social Media – Go Big or Go Home?

Being an influencer in social media is not all unicorns and rainbows. Being famous in the social media world has its price, just like all choices have consequences.

One of the last social media platforms I though would fall to political correctness was WordPress. I have used it for many years, had a self-hosted account not to long ago, until I decided to “rebrand” myself and use the paid version of WordPress.com. I like the convenience of not having to do the heavy lifting of the self-hosted account and the social media aspects as well.

A few days ago, a well-known conservative website was booted from WordPress.

I like growing my audience organically (just like the food I partake). Many on social media like the large numbers. I get some of my news from the bigger accounts. But sometimes the numbers matter more than the message.

Sometimes I want to be well-known and I am envious of those that are. But I pull myself back to the ground and say again to myself that I am where I am supposed to be. (Though living under Oregon state government is not easy right now.) Not to mention the fact it would overwhelm me.

I recently watched my video Moms’ Night Out. Allyson wants to be a mom and a mommy blogger. She has only a few followers at the beginning of the movie, but by the end decides to be herself and ends up with 235 followers for which she is grateful.

My inbox was full of messages from email lists today to be me, and some referring to your online presence. Something the Lord told me seven years ago when I moved here. Little did I know how revolutionary that truly is, but I have persevered. But not without some burnt dinners.

The link below is a social media prophecy about downsizing social media sites (video included) – to decentralize to our own home website bases, with social media on the side. This is something I knew back when blogs first started and want to see again. Not that social media should go away, NO! Just to put them in their proper perspective.
